The year was circa 2002. Ragnarok Online was getting long in the tooth and I was invited into a mystical world that existed only until 2005, which was Dark Age of Camelot. The entire game itself was I would argue harder than Dark Souls. Soloing anything was next to near impossible and leveling required a group and lots of patience. FFXI, while not my cup of tea, was in many ways similar and players have similar opinions. The point of the game, the success, came from community. Back in the day, there used to be two baseball games that would compete with each other; Sony’s MLB The Show and MLB 2K. Following the release of MLB 2K13, 2K Sports dropped the franchise, leaving PlayStation exclusive The Show to dominate the virtual baseball market. In 2014, RBI Baseball brought back their franchise, aiming to create a more arcade-based style instead of the realistic simulation that The Show offers. I think that is an unwise decision and that the RBI Baseball franchise won’t exist much longer in the future. The thing about baseball video games is that no one buys them except for hardcore baseball fans. Except for Mario Baseball or epic arcade-style games like The Bigs or Slugfest, baseball fans want a realistic sim. Towards the end of this month, Yoshi’s Crafted World will be released worldwide for the Nintendo Switch. I’m not sure how, but I literally just heard about this game for the first time the other day. I saw gameplay footage on YouTube, and I have to say, this game looks pretty hype. Yoshi is one of my favorite Mario characters. Annual sports games are generally the same every year, with some improvements sprinkled in here and there. MLB The Show is no different. I am a huge MLB fan and initially went the Playstation route over Xbox solely because of The Show, but I don’t think I have bought a copy of the game since 2016. However, the changes that are coming with this year’s version are enticing enough to make me want to spend that extra $60 to get my lifelike MLB experience. Personally, I play MLB The Show for mainly one reason – and that’s for its Road to the Show mode. Since the Super Bowl earlier this month, we have gone nearly one month without football (I’m not counting the AAF). I don’t care much for basketball, but I’ll catch a college game every now and then. Now is the time of the year when I anxiously await for the baseball season to start up, but the best time of the year is when the baseball season is well underway and college football starts back up again. There are two things I love in life that when mixed are the perfect combination, and that is Mario and America’s greatest pastime. Sure, realistic games like MLB The Show are fun, but it’s way more entertaining to play against friends with a roster filled with Mario and his pals and enemies. I’m sorry, it just is. Mario Superstar Baseball is a game that I am always down to play. I still have my Gamecube (the Gamecube Mario ball is better than the Wii’s) and will take on anyone who is foolish enough to challenge me to a game of five innings. Alright, so this may sound a little messed up, but I have always thought Kirby looks so tasty. Just look at him, he’s so cute. He looks good enough to eat. Kirby likes to suck up and swallow enemies, so why not return the favor? Kirby’s squishy texture is intriguing. I imagine Kirby would be chewy, like a nice piece of bubblegum. I played baseball for years, so naturally I am a big bubblegum guy. I feel like Kirby would even taste like gum as well. You could probably blow some epic bubbles with Kirby, with how he can expand and how stretchy he is.
