After nearly 13 years as the president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime has now decided to retire. A new president of Nintendo of America has already been chosen, being none other than Doug Bowser.

Reggie Fils-Aime quickly won over the hearts and minds of many Nintendo fans with his gentle and open demeanor. Fans would go on to form memes of the Nintendo of America president, such as can be found below.

In a joint statement on Thursday, however, Fils-Aime and Nintendo of America announced that the company’s president and COO would be retiring this spring. Current senior vice president of sales and marketing Doug Bowser has since been chosen to replace Fils-Aime as president of Nintendo of America. Fils-Aime’s final day within his long held position will be April 15.

Fils-Aime first landed his position back in May of 2006. Prior to that, the Nintendo of America president acted as the executive VP of sales and marketing for three years. Speaking in a recent press release, Fils-Aime has come forward to offer a few words on the matter of his retirement.

“Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever,” Fils-Aime said. “It’s a part that is filled with gratitude–for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.”

Nintendo of America has since also posted a video of Fils-Aime offering the fans a few words. Check it out below.

“I wanted to reach out directly to you, the Nintendo community, because there’s one thing I really want to say: thank you,” Fils-Aime stated. “Thank you for your never-ending support, and for your passionate love of Nintendo. And personally, for giving me a Mushroom Kingdom full of incredible memories that I will never forget, ever.”

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has since also come forward with a message on the matter.

“I really appreciate everything Reggie has done for Nintendo. Inside and outside our company, Reggie is known as an exceptional leader. We are grateful that he is leaving the business in good shape with strong momentum. While we will miss him and we wish him the very best in his retirement, we are also pleased to have such an able successor ready to step into that role. Doug Bowser and the rest of the team will ensure a seamless transition and continued momentum for Nintendo.”

In order to put a face to the name, Nintendo of America have since offered a quick message featuring the soon-to-be president of the company.

“And now a message from our new Vice President of Sales, Doug Bowser.” The company stated.

Doug Bowser is, to perhaps few fans surprise, quite aware of his last name. Taking to social media, Bowser has drawn attention to his likeness to a certain Mario Brothers villain on a few occasions.

” You can never have too many Bowsers in the office.” Doug Bowser said.

Of course, a bevy of fans and industry insiders alike have since come forward with reactions to the recent news. Check out what many had to say about Reggie Fils-Aime’s impending retirement within the social media posts provided down below.
